JANUARY 2012
St. Joe Valley PHCC Newsletter

While the jobs numbers are starting to inch up and business confidence is improving slightly, all good signs for our economy, a number was discovered in our Quick Books accounting program that should be shared with members. The total number of dollars contributed to local charities from 2004 to 2011 was $61,223. This figure surprised our executive committee and other members who were told about it.
The fact that St. Joe Valley PHCC has a big heart and contributes to the less fortunate in our community is no surprise: it has been a mission of the association from the day it was formed more than 60 years ago.
Most recently, our association installed the plumbing at the Robert Miller Veteran's Center – a one of a kind residential facility opening next to the Center for the Homeless devoted to helping veterans regain their dignity after returning from the military. Contractors, suppliers and Local 172 all contributed to this effort –in conjunction with other labor unions, churches, and community organizations.
Other programs that the association has contributed to include: renovation of the Twyckenham Community Pool; renovation of the Three Oaks Little League; donations to Chiara Home, Hospice, the Compassionate Friends, neonatal units at both hospitals, Reins of Life, Rebuilding Together, The Food Bank of Northern Indiana, St. Vincent de Paul Society, local high school athletic programs, WNIT, and Camp Millhouse (just to name a few).
The association has also been generous in assisting those who have been in need regarding plumbing or heating services. Many a contractor has put his regular work aside to come to the aid of those who cannot afford necessary plumbing services.
It should be mentioned that the Women's Auxiliary has worked hard to help those in need through baskets and donations during the past several years.
So while 2011 was not a year of positive numbers overall, the association continued giving reflecting the need in the community. That is something St. Joe Valley members should take pride in! Thanks to all the executive committees and boards of directors (past and present) for making "giving" a priority.
