Proud grandparents Becky and Dave Dodd enjoy
the picnic with Mia
It was another beautiful
day for the St. Joe Valley picnic August 14 at
George Wilson Park in Mishawaka. It was a chance
for members to have fun with friends and family
and enjoy our annual corn and sausage roast put
on by long-time members Jim Trippel and Don Wroblewski.
There were raves all around for these two staples
of the picnic – corn
picked fresh that day and grilled by Jim and
Don’s
special sausage. Dave Frame contributed to the
day by being in charge of renovating Jim’s
grills, which now are shiny new looking and even
boast Jim’s name on one of them.
The picnic is also the
time that the association gives out scholarships.
This year’s winners
include: James Michael Taylor, son of Mike Taylor
from EJ White, who is attending IUSB; Amanda
Frame, daughter of Dave Frame, who is attending
IU, Bloomington; Rachael Niezgodski, son of Dave
Niezgodski, who is attending the University of
Notre Dame; Charles Watterson IV, grandson of
Charles Watterson Jr., who is attending Purdue
North Central; Whitney Dominiack, daughter of
Jerry Dominiack, who is attending IUPUI, and
Carolyn Trippel, daughter of Terry Trippel, who
will be attending Purdue University. Congratulations
to all the winners and best wishes for the upcoming
school year.
The entertainment committee is considering moving
the picnic to another park next year just to
change things up and make it more fun, so please
let members know if you have any ideas. The entertainment
committee is chaired by Steve Seifer and members
include Joe White, Don Wroblewski, Jim Trippel
and Kathy Jonas.
Chuck Trippel won the raffle
(and donated his share back) and has picked Chiara
Home as the charity to receive the money collected
at membership dinners during the year and at
the picnic. Thanks for your generosity during
a really rough year
Thanks to all the volunteers who make the picnic
happen each year. It would not be possible without
you!
In other news:
Please RSVP as soon as possible
for the September 24 meeting at the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local
172 Union Hall with new Business Manager Jim Scheetz
as the speaker. Jim will be discussing the new
target fund aimed at helping contractors during
these tough economic times. There will also be
discussion about adding dental and eye insurance
to the contractor’s insurance plan. This
is an important meeting to attend in order to
have your voice be heard. RSVPs are due by September
18. Please fax or RSVP by e-mail to the office.
A special St. Joe Valley
PHCC tour of the new St. Joseph’s Regional
Medical Center has been scheduled for September
10 at 5 p.m. The tour is slated to last about
an hour and a half and will include the mechanical
rooms. There are a few slots left, so please
call the office as soon as possible if you are
interested. Thanks to Vicki Budd, wife of Vic
Budd, for arranging this tour.
The October meeting will be a Tabletop organized
by JC German of EJ White and will take place
October 15 at the Studebaker Museum. Tours of
the facility will be available beforehand, as
was the case the last time the association met
there. Please mark your calendars!
Thanks to Dave Frame and
Brenda Dant, Indiana PHCC Executive Director,
for their hard work organizing this year’s Indiana Expo at Belterra Casino.
Other than the rain canceling the golf outing,
the expo was a great success. Work has already
begun for next year’s event. Further details
in upcoming newsletters. Congratulations to Laura
Ciriello-Benedict for being chosen Contractor
of the Year for Indiana.
The association has ordered t-shirts with the
Call A Licensed Plumber logo on them. They are
available in the office for your employees or
your company. Just call or come in and pick the
sizes you would like. Thanks to Dave Frame for
making this happen.
The Holiday Party will be Friday, December 11,
at the Morris Park Country Club. Our charity this
year is St. Vincent DePaul Society. Please make
note of the date.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Larry Spromberg
on the loss of his employee Alan Smith, who died
in an accident last week. St. Joe Valley will
be making a donation to his family, which includes
his wife and three children.
