PHCC DEVELOPMENTS

What’s New on the Local, State and National level

SPRING 2009

PHCC GOING GREEN

Your national PHCC has taken the lead in bringing green plumbing to associations across the country. The national association and GreenPlumbers have joined forces to help provide contractor training in the environmental impact and technical aspects of water and energy efficient technologies in the United States. PHCC state and local chapters have two options: train their own instructors or use a GreenPlumbers instructor to conduct workshops. The program is aimed at helping contractors become certified specialists in this growing field.

The St. Joe Valley PHCC executive committee is working with the national association to see how this valuable program can be incorporated locally.

Record Number of Apprentices

Two members of St. Joe Valley, Bill Meyer and Larry Spromberg, will be interviewing more than 200 people who have applied to be apprentices this year. Both Bill and Larry are members of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Please give them a big “thank you” because this is a huge job this year and will take nearly a week to go through all the applicants.

State Convention

Belterra Resort will be the scene of the second State Expo this year July 29-31. Last year’s event was such a success, the Indiana PHCC booked it for another year. More than 15 St. Joe Valley contractors enjoyed the educational seminars, golf, resort and president’s reception on Friday night. Sign up is taking place now for an even better state convention in 2009. Rooms are limited so don’t wait to get involved.

Overhead Class

More than 20 people attended a class sponsored by St. Joe Valley called “Understanding Overhead.” This class was presented by the PHCC Education Foundation with Michael Bohinc, a CPA and plumbing contractor, as the instructor. The day-long class took place in the St. Joe Valley training room and covered billable hours, break even, proper pricing methods, budgeting and company financial statements. In the evening, Bohinc presented a two-hour class to first, second and third-year apprentices so they could learn about overhead costs.
