PHCC DEVELOPMENTS
What’s New on the Local, State and National level
WINTER 2007
Indiana Plumbing Exam Changes
The plumbing license exam process is changing. Brenda Dant, CAE, Executive Director, Indiana PHCC, said that the goal is to have any changes implemented by August and for school terms beginning in the fall.
The proposed changes basically involve testing being administered throughout the state rather than just in Indianapolis. Dant said by the middle of February, a request will go out for vendors to come up with a plan to administer the test at designated testing sites in Indiana.
At the same time, the Indiana Plumbing Commission is changing its rules regarding the licensing law. These rule changes mean the practical portion to the exam will be eliminated and these skills will be taught and tested in the Apprenticeship schools.
3% Withholding Proposed on Capitol Hill
An effort to fund schools in rural areas could lead to a 3 percent withholding on government contracts, according to the National PHCC. A new proposal could force this to occur in 2007, rather than 2011.
“While PHCC is sympathetic to the need to fund rural schools and are supportive of efforts to ensure quality education of America’s youth, we are troubled that there has been virtually no debate on the merits of having the contracting community bear sole responsibility for creating a new trust fund for rural schools,” according to the PHCC.
