BILL HITE ADDRESSES NATIONAL PHCC CONVENTION IN CHICAGO
United Association President Bill Hite told the convention attendees that the association is working aggressively to find solutions to the industry’s labor shortage. He said the UA wants to increase the number of UA-trained apprentices from 35,000 to 40,000. Other priorities, he said, include a national drug-testing program, local apprentice and continuing education, and working with other construction trades to increase the value of union construction to both contractors and their customers.
CALIFORNIA LEGISLATION
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently vetoed legislation requiring 1.3 gallon per flush water closet. The governor agreed with the PHCC that is not enough proof that the technology works. The government relations committee of the national association feels dual flush is a reasonable compromise. Your viewpoints are requested as this debate continues.
INDIANA LICENSING
Enforcement of the Indiana Licensed Plumbing law will be the topic of two meetings this month. On October 26, a small group will meet with Mayor Steve Luecke and Building Commissioner Don Fozo to discuss ways this legislation can be enforced locally. That night, William Ciriello of the Indiana Plumbing Commission, and Brenda Dant, CAE, Executive Director of the Indiana PHCC, will speak at a membership dinner at the LaSalle Grill concerning their experiences statewide with the law.
INDIANA EXECTUIVE DIRECTOR WINS AWARDS
Congratulations to Brenda Dant, CAE, who won several awards at the recent PHCC national convention in Chicago. Dant was recognized for the Indiana newsletter; the Indiana website, the State Membership Directory and State Membership marketing
